How to automatically send a Slack message when Stripe subscriptions change

Managing updates to your Stripe subscriptions can be complex and challenging, especially when keeping your team informed and responsive to the changes. Whether it's a change in pricing, billing, or other subscription-related details, it's crucial to ensure that your team is aware of these changes and equipped to respond accordingly. Failure to do so can result in lost revenue, customer dissatisfaction, and other negative impacts on your business. With Relay, you can create an automation that sends a Slack message every time there's a change in Stripe subscriptions. This guide will walk you through four simple steps to set up the integration and keep your team informed and responsive.

1

Create your Relay playbook

To begin coordinating between Stripe and Slack for your workflow, you will need to follow a few steps.

Firstly, you need to sign up for Relay and visit your dashboard. Once there, click the "New playbook" button to start creating a playbook.

Give your playbook a unique name like "Stripe Subscription Changes" and choose a relevant emoji, such as ūüď©, to help you identify it quickly.

2

Set the Stripe trigger as ‚ÄúSubscription changed‚ÄĚ

Add the Stripe trigger to initiate your playbook's actions before changing your subscription.

To do this, click "Add trigger" in your playbook. Select the "Subscription changed" trigger option from the dropdown menu under Stripe. It will enable your playbook to identify newly changed subscriptions and trigger necessary actions automatically.

If you haven't connected your Stripe account to Relay yet, a prompt will guide you through the connection process.

3

Add the ‚ÄúSend message‚ÄĚ automation in Slack

Integrate the Slack automation into your playbook to ensure you receive timely updates about the changes in the Stripe subscription.

Select "Add Step" and then search for the "Send message" automation for Slack. Fill in all the relevant details, including the sender's name, the Slack channel for updates, and the message body containing detailed information.

If you still need to connect your Slack account to Relay, you will be prompted to complete that connection. Make sure to allow the necessary permissions for Relay to send messages through your Slack account.

4

Activate your playbook

Activating your playbook is the last step. Once you turn it on, the playbook automatically sends a Slack message when Stripe subscriptions change without manual intervention.

To activate your playbook, click the toggle button in the header. Before starting it, we recommend running a test to ensure all the steps work seamlessly together.
