How to add an email sender in Gmail to a dedicated Slack channel

Relay.app is an automation tool that lets you automate actions across Gmail, Slack, and many other apps. In this guide, we'll show you how to automatically run the “add users to channel” action in Slack for each email received in Gmail using Relay.app.

1

Create your playbook and set the Gmail trigger as "Email received"

After creating your playbook, you can proceed to add your trigger. The trigger detects changes in your connected apps and runs your playbook in response.

To setup this playbook, click "Add trigger" and then select "Email received" under Gmail. Then, select the necessary details. This will allow your playbook to automatically detect the newly received email in Gmail and initiate necessary actions.

If this is your first time using a Gmail integration in Relay.app, a prompt will guide you through the connection process.

2

Add the "Add to channel" in Slack automation

Integrate the Slack automation into your playbook to ensure the prompt adding of a new person to the Slack channel when a new email has been received in Gmail.

Click the "Add step" button, then locate the "Add to channel" automation for Slack and input the mandatory and relevant details.

If your Slack account isn't already connected to Relay.app, you will be prompted to complete that connection. Make sure to allow the necessary permissions for Relay.app to sync with your Slack account.

3

Activate your Relay.app playbook

Activating your playbook is the final step to automate the addition of a new person to the Slack channel. Once turned on, it will respond to each newly received email in Gmail by adding a new person to the Slack channel without manual intervention.

To enable your playbook, click the toggle button located in the header. It is advisable to perform a test run of your playbook beforehand to ensure all steps work seamlessly together and reminders are being sent correctly.
